A little more

About Me

For the past 10 years, I have worked for my hometown's Parks and Recreation program serving as a leader on different programs for children. While the last 4 summers, I worked for the county's Developmental Disability Board at a summer camp being an inclusion specialist. I was able to create an "All Abilities" camp for kids in the local area, which was then recognized by the state. I am passionate about helping children grow to reach their full potential and inclusion of everyone.

My interests

I love to be doing creative, hands-on activities. When I am not spending time with friends, I am normally found working on my Cricut or doing schoolwork. I enjoy being around kids of all ages. I also am a huge foodie and love spending time with dogs, even though I do not have one at the moment. Being active is also an important aspect of my life as I usually have lots of energy! I enjoy Barre, pilates, strength training, and going for walks outdoors.

Self-Assessment

Based on the Strength Finder 2.0 test through Gallup, my five top strengths are:

Woo

Woo means "winning people over." People with Woo love to meet new people and help them overcome obstacles that prevent them from connecting with other people. In my case, Woo also means I share lots of information about myself in hopes that others will reciprocate. I typically enjoy spending my time with other people and am extrememly comfortable starting conversations with new people.

Includer

People with strong Includer talents typically are hyperaware of those who feel left out and make an extra effort to include them. By nature, I find ways to involve everyone and am striving to create a sense of belonging at all points in time. It was also noted that I am friendly, even-tempered, easy to get along with, and likeable.

Positivity

People with strong Positivity talents typically have "an enthusiasm that is contagious."
For me, I feel fulfilled when I can help others reach higher level of excellence.  I also am optimistic about reaching my goals, and I hope to spread that positivity and encouragment to those around me.

Developer

People who have Developer as one of their strengths is to help spot the signs of small improvement and cultivate the potential in others. This strength also emphasized that for me, I may gravitate to situations where I can help kids explore their world and talents, which fits my goal of becoming a pediatric OT. I always try to make people feel valued and will sacrifice my own time, knowledge, skills, resources, or material possessions to better someone else.

Achiever

People with Achiever as a strength are typically hard workers and derive satisfaction from being busy and productive. The strength fits me as I typically have tasks completed prior to the deadline. I also believe I am hardwired to be goal-orientated, and will not stop until that goal is achieved. Sometimes to a fault, I am a perfectionist, so I have little (if any) tolerance for laziness or mediocrity.

Personality Test: ESJF

I gain energy from being around other people. I also tend to be focused on details, rather than ideas. My decisions are made based off my feelings and values, and I prefer to be planned and organized rather than "going with the flow."

Learning Styles

Auditory: 30%

I can learn through auditory experiences, but I am a better visual/tactile learner.

Visual: 35%

I tend to learn by seeing pictures. I am neat and clean because it allows me to visualize something when I look for it.

Tactile: 35%

I learn through physical movement, and prefer "hands-on" learning. I also need to be active and take frequent breaks when I am learning.

My strengths, personality traits, and learning styles can impact the rest of my educational program goals, as well as my future career goals. Throughout my education and career, it is important for me to know that I learn best through tactile and visual experiences. This can help me find a setting that I will enjoy and notice needs within emerging areas. Additionally, my organization skills will help keep me on track for reaching my goals. Lastly, my strengths will allow me to work with others in a positive, inclusive, and friendly way throughout group projects and with an interprofessional team.
